Tucson City Wide Worship Night

Last week my husband Ned and my friend Bon joined me and hundreds of other Christians around the city for the first “Citywide Worship and Prayer Night” at the Fox Theatre in downtown Tucson. It was presented by 4Tucson, City Psalms Tucson and K-Love radio. It was incredible. There were hundreds of believers from all around Tucson singing and praying for our city. It was wonderful so see so many pastors and churches represented, from the conservatives to the charismatics, from the very young to the elderly, all with one purpose: to glorify our God and pray for Tucson. My husband said, “What a blessing to go and worship our King.” What touched my heart so much is the testimonies from some of the pastors and when they shared how many of them are meeting together and fasting and praying for days as a group to see our city set on fire for our Jesus.

What memories this evening stirred. When I was seven my Mom and I moved out to Tucson from Long Island for her health. She had severe arthritis. She was worried I may be shy in our new city so she encouraged me to compete in a song contest for the old KHOS radio. It ended up that I was only one who did and as part of the prize I got to appear on the stage at the Fox Theatre. On Saturday mornings many of us would walk to the Fox for the Mickey Mouse Club. The theatre would feature cartoons, a short serial and a full-length movie, oftentimes westerns. We also got a coke and popcorn for the high cost of 25 cents. Were those the days? Before one of the shows the KHOS sponsors brought me up on stage and I sang my western song, “Bimbo.” With long braids and dark brown eyes I went from shy to so full of confidence my Mom had to reign me in. But to sit back years later and look around at the refurbished theater and join in the wonderful worship and prayer was like a miracle. Matthew 6:21 is my lifelong verse: “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.” This was a treasure to look back and see how my heavenly Father has held me in the palm of His hand. He is holding you in His hand too..look back and remember.

Joyfully, Kathy
